  1. A loom is any machine for weaving yarn or 
  2. thread into cloth. The first looms were used 
  3. to weave sheep's wool about 5000 BC. A loom 
  4. is a frame on which a set of lengthwise 
  5. threads (warp) is strung.  A second set of 
  6. threads (weft), carried in a shuttle, is 
  7. inserted at right angles over and under the 
  8. warp.
